Celebrate IWD with Flowers (and beer!)
Next Thursday, we're hosting a fabulous bouquet-making workshop to honour the creativity and contributions of women. Join us to design a bright, spring-inspired bouquet while sipping on a refreshing beverage by Left Field Brewery! It's a fun, social evening open to all skill levels — and we'd absolutely love to see you there.
Honouring Women, Every Day
International Women’s Day on March 8 is a global celebration of women's brilliance and a reminder that the fight for gender equality is far from over. For me, it also brings back memories of Quince's scrappy, flower-filled beginnings!
When I started Quince, I quickly realized that my friends and family could only buy so many bouquets! I needed to make some sales happen — fast!
Back then, Secretary's Day (long before the more polished "Administrative Professionals' Day") was all the rage. I thought it was a pretty cringeworthy, made-up holiday in the very industry I'd just jumped into. Wouldn't it be better to honour all women on International Women's Day, instead of limiting the celebration to Secretary's Day? And wouldn't it be more original — and way more fabulous? The year was 1997 and it was a radical idea!
I pitched the idea of sending IWD flowers to a marketing agency, and guess what? They loved it. My first big order! They sent gorgeous bouquets to their top female clients, and suddenly, both Quince and the agency were buzzing with business.
Today, I celebrate and thank every woman who's been part of Quince. From my very first hire, Flora Jean (it was a team of two — Flora and Rosie — how could we not succeed in the world of flowers?) to the many brilliant women who branched out on their own, to the wildly talented team I work with today — each of them has helped shape Quince into what it is now. And I couldn't be prouder!
We all have the power to shake things up for women. We can call out stereotypes, challenge discrimination, question bias, and celebrate every win — big or small. But most importantly, we can share our knowledge and lift each other up. Because when women support women? Magic happens.
