Air Purifying Plants

| Rosie Jeffares-Levitt

There are many reasons to have plants in your home, one great reason is to improve air quality. Here is a list of plants that are good air purifiers!

We all know from grade school that we breathe in oxygen and give out carbon dioxide (CO2) when we breathe out, and that plants do the opposite through respiration. Plants breathe in CO2 and produce 02 (Oxygen) which we in turn breathe back in.

Here’s this bit of science turned into a mantra for meditation. Try it!

  • I breath in, plants breathe out.
  • I breath out, plants breathe in.

All plants release oxygen through photosynthesis, but some special species may have built-in air-filtering systems, too. Studies have shown that several common houseplants may actually remove carcinogenic chemicals like benzene and formaldehyde from the air. Try any of the following plants to improve your home environment visually, to improve air quality, and for your good mental health!
